NO INPUT MIXING JAM #1 (April 2023)

My first attempt at recording a 'live in the studio' NIM jam using a small Behringer Mixer and some effects - see info below.

I have provided the entire piece (track 4) as performed with minimal editing.
Tracks 1 -3 are the same piece cut into separate tracks.


The nature of no input mixing (or NIM) is unpredictable. Sounds can be edited and manipulated afterwards to create more 'musical' pieces - and I encourage others to do this with my work (provided I receive due credit) - however, this recording serves to demonstrate the unpredictable / improvisational nature of no input mixing.

NO INPUT MIXING (or NIM) is a style of electronic music where the mixing board is the instrument and generally no other instruments or sound producing devices are used to generate sound.

By routing the output/s of a mixer back though its input channels feedback signals are generated. By manipulating the controls - gain, eq, - and the use of effects units, interesting sounds can be created.

The technique of no input mixing is most famously employed by Japanese experimental musician - Toshimaru Nakamura
